Rob Ellis is a producer, writer/composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist most widely acknowledged for his work with PJ Harvey. This includes the Mercury Prize award-winning 'Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea', which he co-produced and performed on. More recently he's worked with Cold Specks, 2:54 and Mercury Prize nominated and BBC 'Sound of' artist Anna Calvi, producing her debut album on Domino Records. He has also released his own music on the Leaf Label which has received critical acclaim from the likes of The Times, Guardian, Mojo, NME, Independent and The Wire.
Rob uses a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and told us why it's the right fit for his set-up:
"My Saffire Pro 40 is great. The sound is really warm and rich, and when I use it in my home studio for pre-production, I'm confident that anything I record is not just a demo. This means that when I take stems to an outside studio to finish an album, I've got great sounding files, especially where vocals are concerned. That's especially useful for me as I never treat "first pass" vocals as demos - they are often the finished article."
